Gold Rate Today, November 6, 2026: Gold Prices Fall on Dhanteras; Check 24K, 22K and 18K Rates

A decline in gold prices has brought some relief to festive shoppers, although the final jewellery bill depends on more than the daily metal rate.

Gold prices moved lower on Friday, November 6, as India marked Dhanteras, bringing the precious metal into sharper focus for families planning their festive purchases. For buyers considering a coin, a small gift or jewellery for an upcoming wedding, the fall offers an opportunity to revisit their budgets before stepping into a showroom.

The decline was visible in the futures market. The Economic Times reported that December gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange fell by ₹2,300 to ₹1,41,808 per 10 grams during morning trading. Silver futures also weakened, dropping ₹3,440 to ₹1,83,700 per kilogram. These are exchange prices and should be distinguished from retail jewellery quotations.

What are today’s retail gold rates?

According to updated Goodreturns figures reported by Upstox, 24-karat gold was priced at ₹14,346 per gram, down ₹256. The rate for 22-karat gold stood at ₹13,150 per gram after a ₹235 decline, while 18-karat gold was quoted at ₹10,759 per gram, lower by ₹193.

On a 10-gram basis, these figures translate to ₹1,43,460 for 24K gold, ₹1,31,500 for 22K gold, and ₹107,590 for 18K gold. The difference between the three categories reflects their gold content, making purity an essential part of any price comparison.

Why did gold prices decline?

Friday’s fall came against a changing global economic backdrop. According to The Economic Times, higher crude oil prices revived inflation concerns and increased expectations of a possible US Federal Reserve interest rate increase. Investors were also awaiting American employment data for further indications of monetary policy.

Those developments formed the background to the morning decline in gold futures. They should not, however, be read as a prediction of where prices will move next. A single trading session captures the market’s response at that moment; subsequent information can change the picture.

Understanding the difference in purity

Before comparing prices, buyers should establish which purity they want. A quotation for 18K jewellery cannot be compared directly with one for 22K jewellery simply because both pieces have the same weight.

The Bureau of Indian Standards identifies 18K gold with a fineness of 750 and 22K gold with a fineness of 916. These markings describe the proportion of gold in the article. Understanding them helps shoppers assess what they are paying for, especially when comparing products across different stores.

Look beyond the advertised gold rate

A lower metal price does not automatically produce the lowest jewellery bill. Making charges, the product selected and applicable taxes also influence the amount payable. Retail quotations can therefore differ even when shops advertise similar gold rates.

For a useful comparison, ask each jeweller for a complete written estimate for the same purity and net gold weight. Check the metal value and every additional charge separately. If an offer includes a discount, ask which component of the bill it applies to.

That approach makes a festive offer easier to evaluate. A headline discount is less informative than a clear explanation of the final amount, particularly when choosing between two pieces with different weights or designs.

Check hallmarking before completing the purchase

Purity verification deserves the same attention as price. BIS advises consumers to check three elements on hallmarked gold jewellery: the BIS logo, the purity and fineness marking, and the six-character alphanumeric Hallmark Unique Identification number.

The HUID can be checked through the “Verify HUID” feature in the BIS CARE app. This provides a practical way to verify the details associated with a hallmarked article before completing the transaction.

Buyers should also retain a proper invoice. BIS says the bill should identify the article, its net precious-metal weight, purity in carat and fineness, and hallmarking charges. These details provide a useful record of the purchase and support any later complaint.

For Dhanteras shoppers, the day’s decline makes a fresh price check worthwhile. A considered purchase starts with the current quotation, a clear bill and verified purity alongside a budget that remains comfortable after the celebrations.
