MUMBAI: In another big-ticket deal in Alibaug, now considered an extension of south Mumbai, cricketer Virat Kohli and actor Anushka Sharma have purchased an over 5-acre land parcel for Rs 37.86 crore. The two adjoining plots are in Zirad village, Raigad district.
According to real estate data analytics firm CRE Matrix, the transaction was registered on Jan 13 and the couple paid stamp duty of Rs 2.27 crore. Documents show that the seller is Sonali Amit Rajput, a director of Samira Land Estates.
In 2022, the couple had bought an 8-acre farmhouse in Alibaug’s Zirad village for Rs 19 crore.
The coastal stretch of Alibaug has been pitched for its winning combination of rural idyll, increased connectivity to the city, and an option away from the concrete claustrophobia of Mumbai. A slew of celebrities and movie stars have bought properties in Alibaug in the past few years.
In 2023, actor Suhana Khan, daughter of Shah Rukh Khan, bought three plots (2.79 acres) in Alibag for a total value of Rs 25.5 crore. Shah Rukh also owns property in Alibag including a sprawling coconut plantation, according to local sources.
Actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh too are heavily invested in the Alibag property market.
In 2021, they purchased a house in Mapgaon village of Alibaug for Rs 22 crore from Rajesh Jaggi of the Everstone Group.
During the pandemic, TOI reported that the land rush here accelerated when around 150 families from Mumbai shifted to their weekend homes after the lockdown began in early 2020.
Even during the pandemic, Alibaug witnessed several big-ticket property deals. In 2021, a six-acre beachfront home was sold for Rs 80 crore in Awas village of Alibaug. The sprawling property, owned by a Parsi business family, the Engineers of Atash Leasing, was purchased by Shrikantadevi Damani, wife of Radhakishan Damani, stock market investor and founder of the supermarket chain DMart. In 2020, Radhakishan and his brother Gopikishan purchased a bungalow property on Narayan Dabholkar Road in south Mumbai for a record Rs 1,001 crore. In 2015, Radhakishan Damani bought the five-star Radisson Blu Resort & Spa for Rs 135 crore.
Last year, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan purchased three plots in Alibaug for Rs 6.59 crore.
