IND vs ENG Highlights, India vs England Test Series Day 5: Akash Deep had the time of his life as he returned with six wickets in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test to help the visitors register a memorable 336-run in the second game of the five-match series. As a result of this effort, India registered their first-ever Test win at Edgbaston. Akash Deep finished with a total of ten wickets in the contest to bring the series on level terms at 1-1.
The final day got off to a delayed start as rain played spoilsport. There was no play for close to two hours. However, Day 5 finally got underway at 5:10 PM IST. India dominated the opening session on the final day of the second Test against England at Edgbaston after scalping three wickets. Akash Deep provided the best start possible to the visitors after he dismissed overnight batters Ollie Pope and Harry Brook.
However, Akash Deep’s removal from the attack eased pressure on England as Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith dug their heels in to frustrate India. However, right on the cusp of Lunch, Washington Sundar got a wicket against the run of play as he sent England captain Ben Stokes back to the hut for 33.
Jamie Smith and Chris Woakes then put on a brief partnership in the second session to frustrate India. However, this stand was finally ended by Prasidh Krishna as he got his first wicket of the game. Jamie Smith was the main thorn in India’s eyes and he fell in trying to go for a third consecutive six off the bowling of Akash Deep. Smith was the top-scorer for England as he registered 88 runs.
After Smith’s dismissal, it was a matter of time before India cleaned up England’s tail. The final wicket was scalped by Akash Deep as the visitors registered a win for the ages. It was quite fitting that Shubman Gill took the final catch as the India captain had a memorable game, scoring 430 runs. India and England will now take each other at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in the third Test, beginning July 10.
