The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has initiated steps to develop a Japanese Industrial City near the upcoming Noida International Airport, as part of efforts to attract large-scale foreign investment from Japan, the Hindustan Times reported.
The proposed industrial city is planned over 395 hectares in the Yamuna Expressway region.
To take the project forward, Yeida will hold a key meeting with Japanese entrepreneurs in Delhi on 16 January, in collaboration with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
Explaining the initiative, Yeida additional chief executive officer Shailendra Bhatia said, “To materialise the project, an Authority team will hold a key meeting with Japanese entrepreneurs in Delhi on January 16 to take the plan forward. The meeting will be held with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) during which representatives of Japanese companies will be invited to share their suggestions on how the proposed Japanese City should be developed. The inputs will be used to shape the project and align it with the expectations of Japanese investors.”
Yeida chief executive officer R K Singh had earlier visited Neemrana in Rajasthan, where a Japanese industrial zone has been successfully developed, to study best practices.
The visit helped officials understand aspects such as land-use planning, infrastructure requirements and the overall industrial ecosystem preferred by Japanese firms.
According to officials, several Japanese companies have already held preliminary discussions with Yeida. “Many companies have already held preliminary discussions with the Authority officials. The January 16 meeting is expected to be a major step in formalising the plan and moving towards implementation,” said an official aware of the development, requesting anonymity.
Japanese entrepreneurs will be consulted on their specific needs, including the size and type of industrial plots and whether they prefer exclusively industrial facilities or a combination of industrial and residential infrastructure.
“If companies express a need for housing and other support facilities, Yeida may consider offering mixed land-use sectors as part of the Japanese City,” the official added.
Yeida is also engaging with Japanese organisations such as Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ) and plans to attract major Japanese firms to the Medical Device Park in the region.
